Jui Dhaygude Pande
Indian Classical vocalist from Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana

Smt. Jui Dhaygude-Pande is an eminent vocalist of the Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana of Hindustani classical music. She was born in Pune and raised in the town of Talegaon in Maharashtra. Jui excelled in her school and college education, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communications from Pune University. Jui’s passion in Hindustani music drove her to take regular training in vocal music very seriously during her school and college life. Her training in Hindustani music has been from two Gurus of the Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana tradition. It is Jui’s great good fortune that both her Gurus were themselves disciples of the legendary vocalist Gaanasaraswati Padmavibhushan late Kishori Amonkar. Her first Guru was late Vidushi Smt. Sheela Joshi of Pune with whom Jui trained for about 20 years. Her second Guru is Pandit Dr. Arun Dravid, who is the senior-most disciple of late Kishoriji.
Since both her Gurus were trained in the same tradition under Gaanasaraswati Kishoriji, Jui has emerged as the female torch-bearer of the Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana of the younger generation. Therefore, it is only natural that Jui’s vocal presentations have a clear stamp of the emotive content of Kishoriji’s version of the Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana, including the distinct repertoire of specialty Raagas of this Gharana. Her recitals always display the beautiful balance between Sur and Taal which is the hallmark of the Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana. In particular, Jui’s “Layakari” displays the intricate tandem relationship between Sur and Taal in a pleasing manner.

In addition to her mastery of her Gharana style, Jui is also proficient in presenting semi-classical varieties like Thumri, Dadra, Bhajans and Abhangas. Most of these have been popularized by the legendary Gaanasaraswati Kishoriji herself.
One of Jui’s outstanding qualities is her full devotion to her music. She strives to preserve the purity and grace of Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana. She is so passionate about her music that her mind is constantly occupied with thoughts of how to inject her own personality and creativity into her Gayaki. She is hard-working, spending several hours daily in her Riyaaz. She is respectful of her disciples as well as her accompanists on the concert stage. Among her other qualities are extreme modesty, punctuality and a courteous demeanor.
